Greetings all, and Happy New Year...
Several people on this forum have bought MicroHunt or SquawkBox
transmitters, which generate about 50 mW output. This is from Bob Simmons, I
make them. I've just finished some tests on an amplifier design that will
boost the output of these transmitters to 0.8 to 1 Watt. Cost will
be $50. ( + $10 shipping and 3% for PayPal )
The amp also has a modulator circuit to allow MicroHunt operation
using A1 ( CW ) or A2 ( MCW ) modes, which are popular in Europe, and
required for formal ARDF hunts. Code changes to the PIC micro ( in the
MicroHunt TX ) are required to use these new modes. The mode is selected by
a strap added to the MicroHunt TX. ( = user selectable ) If these new modes
are not desired, the amplifier can be used for regular FM mode, with no
modifications required to the present MicroHunt / SquawkBox transmitters.
The amplifier is the same size as a MicroHunt, 0.7 x 1.2 inches, and
designed to "stack atop" it, yielding a 0.8 to 1.0 W TX that is still VERY
small.
Designed for 12V operation, total load ( with TX ) while transmitting = 250
mA
and about 5 mA "idle".
