Banana plugs/jacks could also work for the elements if you use a metallic
case.  I would think that if the feedline were connectorized at the case
you would want to insulate the braid from the case or use a 1:1 balun
inside the case.  I chose not to connectorize the feed at the case to keep
the parts count and cost down.  A full can of beer is probably about the
same cost as the plumbing fittings, but you get to enjoy the beer.  A
six-pack would get you enough material for an entire course including the
finish beacon.  :-)

I have another construction project on my home page that works better
for me than beer...
