[FoxHunt] Report on Radio Sport Event Sun 27th April

On a very wet Melbourne day that was meant to be "a few showers and=20
23Degrees", but in fact turned out to be "continueous bucketing", a few h=
ardy=20
souls still turned up to try the tradition ARDF course in the grounds of=20
Latrobe University in conjuction with the Nilumbik Emus orienteering club=
=20
Metro event.

This was a full 5 sequenced transmitter ARDF event instead of the fox-or-=
ing=20
tried event at the last Metro. The intention was to have 3 relatively clo=
se=20
and easier controls and two more difficult and distant controls for the=20
experienced ARDFers. The time limit was set to 90 minutes.

Unfortunately even the close controls turned out to be a bit tough, due t=
o the=20
local terrain (fences), not quite enough flag visibility (it is hard to j=
udge=20
this in a busy area) and the pouring rain. Also when picking up the contr=
ols=20
later I heard 3 amateurs happily chatting away on the ARDF frequency of=20
145.3MHz which would certainly have added to the confusion !

For this reason no-one actually found all 5 transmitters in the allocated=
=20
time, but a couple came close.

Despite the woeful conditions we had a few people trying their first ever=
=20
Radio Event. A big and soggy welcome to Bruce Bulled, Racheal Johnson and=
=20
Grant Jeffrey.=20
