    Jacques -

It is easier if you mount the attenuator on the handle
of the yagi so you can operate the control with your thumb
while holding it. There are some good clamps in the hardware
store for mounting brooms, etc. on the wall - they clamp around
the handle and screw into the wall. I've used these attached
to my equipment and they snap around the boom of the yagi
    quite well.

Joe Young VE7BFK uses an audio quieting meter ( audio tone
with the pitch based on the level of noise in the audio output
of the receiver.) This eliminates the need to watch the
meter - a good characteristic of ARDF equipment. With the
radio on your belt, you should be able to do everything with
    one hand.

By the way, there are some other ARDF receivers floating
around North America, the Russian Altais, and some from
China and the Ukraine that I know of. You MIGHT be able
to convince someone to part with one, though be advised
that the Russian and Ukrainian sets use high-impedance
headphones (often "borrowed" from the Russian army...)
The Ukrainian sets are reputed to be some of the best
    in current competition.
