As I announced about a month ago, the Slovak Amateur Radio Association (SARA)
will host the Eleventh ARDF World Championships, September 2-7, 2002. The
site is Tatranske Matliare in the High Tatras of the Slovak Republic.

Competitors are divided into five categories for males and four categories
for females, in accordance with newly approved ARDF rules of the
International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). Each country may have up to three
persons per category on its team. Team members are responsible for their own
transportation expenses to and from Slovakia.

In accordance with IARU procedures, I have just submitted USA's Letter of
Intent to Participate to the Slovakian organizers. Twelve stateside ARDFers
have already expressed strong interest in attending. Their current ages
range from 11 to 60. But it's not too late to put in your own name for Team
USA consideration.

The categories for males between 40 and 59 years of age (as of 12/31/02)
already have three or more signups. Team USA selection in these categories
will be made based on recent performances and standings in events such as the
First USA ARDF Championships (Albuquerque, August 2001) and the Second USA
ARDF Championships (Atlanta, April 2002). The divisions for males under 40
and for all females still have several openings, so it may be possible for
inexperienced radio-orienteers in these categories to join the team. It is
also possible to attend as a non-competing visitor, but visitors must be
listed as such on the national team roster.

If you are interested in traveling to the 2002 ARDF World Championships as a
member of Team USA or a USA visitor, please let me know by e-mail
<[email protected]>. If you have not been on Team USA before, include your
full name and mailing address, home phone number, and date of birth.

If you wish to participate as a citizen of another North or South American
country, contact IARU R2 ARDF Coordinator Dale Hunt WB6BYU <[email protected]>.
Canadian candidates should also contact Canada's ARDF Coordinator Perry
Creighton VA7PC <[email protected]>.
