[Fox_Tango] Yaesu mic for Early FTDX transceivers

A ham friend is restoring an FTDX401 and found information indicating Yaesu sold a UD 844 mic with this rig.
Does anyone have any experience with this mic?  I too have an FTDX570 and both of us notice that we need 
to crank up the mic gain to around 4 o clock (almost full on) to get enough gain from mics like the Shure 444.
In fact, I use an amplified D104 with my rig to give it a bit more audio so I can run the gain down around 10 o 
clock position.
