I agree the 6JS6C was useful when they where going for
$7.00 each but not any more. I did indeed replace the originals
with Philips tubes and the neutrlization went smoothly.  I have the 
Fox-Tango newletters and the fixed cap' mod was done however it didn't
mention a variable cap in addition.  If it turns out I have roasted to
tubes I will not replace them with 6JS6C unless I come across some at a 
reasonable cost.  I once had a FT101E with 6146's and it was great.
