It sounds like the drift is the VFO. Alignment probably won't affect it.
In other brands, I've found poor solder connections in the vicinity of
temperature compensating capacitors on the VFO circuit board, and in
some I've found improper temperature compensation. I'd look into the VFO
for your problems. While there, I'd lubricate the gear drive chain with
white grease and the variable capacitor contacts with DeOxit.

You won't be able to judge drift for several hours after you solder to
temperature sensitive capacitors.
