Exactly, if they offer a rebate; then the product is that much overpriced and possibly even more.   No business ever absorbs a loss and there is no such thing as a free lunch.

The rebate is offered because the price is too high.

A rebate is a vendors way of asking a prospective customer to provide  
the vendor with an
interest free loan of undetermined length, with no collateral and no  
guarantee of payback.

Try to get that at a bank and see what happens.  You might get  
arrested for trying to rob them.

I don't rebates.  Rebates are a scam and I don't do business with  
scammers.
