I have a Hallicrafters SX-62 and Johnson Ranger for sale.
The SX-62 works good and looks good. I think it's cool that I can even get
FM broadcast on it, though I rarely do that. I want $200 for it and you pay
shipping. I can double box it well and i have all the supplies to do it
properly. It is heavy and it does have a giant glass slide rule dial, so if
you prefer pick up, I am all for that.
The Johnson Ranger must have been a kit. I found 22 different problems with
it. Most were unsoldered connections or connections made in the wrong
places. The good thing about it is that because of all the problems, there
was never any transmitting done with it. So you have a Ranger with basically
no time on the tubes, etc. It is working now, 45W carrier output. There is
one more problem left to find. I stopped on it because of a need for bench
space for another project and I never got back to it. What it does now is it
goes into transmit when put in the CW or AM mode. It has the CW keying mod,
and I suspect that this too is mis-wired. I am no longer in the mood to work
on this rig. It has some scratches on the front panel, but has all the
correct knobs. The chassis is clean and the transformers look like brand
new. It's been a while since I had it out where I could see it, but I think
it has the PTT mod as well. I have the manual, a sheet showing the problems
that I found and fixed, and an original typewritten draft of an article for
Electric Radio by W0AGD,who was on the Ranger design team during his time
with EF Johnson. I want $300 for it and you pay shipping. Again, pickup is
fine.
I am in Lincoln, NE.
thanks,
Michael
