OUTBOARD POCKET TUNER II

The OUTBOARD POCKET TUNER is a QRP random wire antenna tuner, made to mount
on the back of the transceiver using a double PL-259 such as the radio shack

278-192. The Compact tuner is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. (1x2x3
inches). The little tuner is an L-network designed to tune from 160 through
10 meters. You can use a double PL-259 to mount directly on the back of the
transceiver, or you can use a coaxial patch cord plugged into the SO-239
connector on the tuner. Connect your random wire to the banana jack/binding
post. This tuner was designed for use with the Yaesu FT-817 QRP
transceiver. If the rig you’re using doesn’t have an SWR meter make sure to
use one hooked up between the transmitter and tuner.

The inductance is the left knob. The capacitance is the knob on the right.

1.. Adjust inductance switch for maximum noise.
2.. Apply enough power for SWR meter keeping TX power as low as possible.
3.. Tune inductance for a drop in SWR.
4.. Tune capacitance for minimum SWR.
5.. If minimum SWR is not achieved, adjust inductance one position up or
down, and
then adjust capacitance for minimum SWR.

6. Adjust transmitter for full power, and fine tune capacitance for lowest
SWR.
