Also, the tubes could be 'soft' and usually are with an older amp such as
this... Carl is right... to replace the tubes, it could probably cost you a
fortune!  

Not many manufacturers left of the high power tubes... the whole high power
world has gone to solid state devices!  This amp uses a pair of 3CX400's
(aka 8874's and sometimes called 'ceramic' tubes only because the anodes are
external and the seals are ceramic).

If they can be found, I believe Svetlana (a Russian tube manufacturer) may,
possibly, still make them...
