That HP 1740A further describes thusly: I get a good, bright trace (no
screen burn); brightness, focus, and horizontal posn are fully controllable;
vertical posn jumps when the control(s) are moved; trace flickers on and
off. IOW, it has a HV intermittent and dirty controls (not surprising,
considering it's been a shelf queen for many years).
The package includes power cord, 10006D probe, X1 / X10 generic probe; 3
"tips 'n' klips" assortment bags; operator's guide and service manual, all
in the factory brown vinyl bag that's glued to the top shell.
It's missing two push-button tops ((INT / EXT, & EXT divide-by-10), one
plastic handle-pivot cover, and all four rear feet are broken off. The
front needs cleaning, and obviously so does the innards ...

I have two other solid-state HP o'scopes, the 182C and USM-281A, both of
which use removable modules, which are prone to tarnished contacts (before I
use them, I have to pull the modules and clean the contacts, ever' time!).
Contrariwise, my DuMont 1062 "re-compete" (an HP copy for the gummint) has
fixed guts, and nary gives me such a problem: so this 1740A, also having
fixed guts, will tend to stay fixed once it is ... of my 32-ish
CRT-containing devices, sand-state jobs are the RCA 505*, two Conar 255, and
LBO 501*. All the rest are tube-type.
BTW, during bouts of insanity, I collect Conar tube gear, and I'm lacking
the Model 250 o'scope and 280 sig-genny. I take trades ...
* Conar sold these in the 70's, along with the RCA WO-33B, which I also have
(and use in the shop, as a lo-freq. scope)
