Go hit up your local 2-way shops to see if they have any working
obsolete/"clunker" VHF rigs which have been taken out of service and are just
lying around gathering dust that they might be willing to get rid of. Tell
them you're a ham and what your purpose for the radio is. If they're like a
shop that I've heard of in this area, $25 or thereabouts might just get you
what you're looking for.
