You might try a large fishing supply store.  Look for "braided bait casting line".  This is NOT the typical monofilament spinning line nor is it flyrod line.  The bait casting line looks almost identical to dial cord and it comes in various "pound test" sizes.  It is a little "strechier" that dial cord, but it will substitute if you can't find any real dial cord!  I can't tell you what "pound test" size to get.  You will have to bring a sample and compare it visually.  Some bair casting line has a great deal of stretch, some doesn't.  Ask a keen salesman to help you and let him know what you are looking for.  Some of it has a black braid covering and a multiple center strand just like dial cord.
