Hate to tell you this, but there is no supported upgrade path from Windows ME to Windows 2000 - the installer will balk if you try. For reference:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232039/en-us

Upgrading from WinME to WinXP *is* supported, but I wouldn't recommend recommended it. WinME is something Microsoft wishes it never released and I wouldn't wish it even upon my enemies.

I generally don't recommend *any* OS "upgrades" - there are too many possible problems due to old/incompatible DLL's left behind after the upgrade and you'll spend countless hours wondering why something doesn't work the way it's expected to. You're much better off just installing the OS "fresh" and starting over. You might spend more time getting it done, but it'll save the headaches and fustration of tracking down incompatible apps/dll's.

BTW, what are the hardware specs of your system...it may not be worthwhile to upgrade if the specs don't meet recommended minimums (note that I said "recommended" minimums, not "absolute" minimums). 256MB is a recommended minimum for Win2K and 512MB is recommended for WinXP.

Subject: [ForSale-Swap] Wanting to Buy Disk (CD) to Upgrade to Windows 2000

Hello:

I need to purchase an upgrade disk (preferably a CD) to upgrade TO
Windows 2000. I purchased a new printer that will not work on anything
less than Win 2000, so need to upgrade from Win MER that I have. I have
not been able to find a driver that will mke my printer work on Win ME
or any similar printer driver that will work for my printer, and have
checked both the HP and Microsoft Website.
I need to purchase the upgrade disk, not the full Windows 2000, since
I have an existing Windows system on my computer. I would like to
purhcase the upgrade disk or a copy of the disk.

If you have one that I could purchase, please contact me at
K9mtc at aol.com. Thank you.
