John Fisher and I have created 3 kits (so far) with microcontrollers (programmed) and use a 21x1 LCD for readout.
#1 is a Hi/Actual/Lo Thermometer with temp readout in C and F for $10 postpaid.
#2 is a Si570 based frequency generator VFO (3.5Mhz to 1.4Ghz capability with the "A" level
     Si570 parts) for $25 without the Si570 or $40 with a CMOS Si570 postpaid.
#3 is a USB attached logging Barometer/Thermometer with many features for $30 without the
     pressure sensor ($16 at DigiKey) or $48 with the pressure sensor postpaid.
