the USPS delivery confirmation system IS NOT A PACKAGE TRACKING
SYSTEM, and the P.O. says it IS NOT A TRACKING SYSTEM - it is a
DELIVERY CONFIRMATION system, it's not meant to allow the sender
to track the package across the US; BUT it sometimes CAN be used
for that purpose. it is meant to provide positive info that the
item HAS BEEN DELIVERED (somewhere!).
i send a lot of packages thru USPS, and very, very rarely do i
have a problem; problems arise from mail carriers who do NOT scan
a package upon delivery (and IF the package is delivered to the
WRONG address, and scanned by the carrier, that's a big boo-boo,
and only rectified if the carrier is on his toes later when asked
to remember the package if it is lost and a request is made to
trace the package). in the beginning of usage i also had an occa-
sional CLERK who forgot to scan the package when i mailed it, this
very rarely happens now.
my P.O. has located two packages that were lost, that did NOT have
insurance, but did have DC; i think a lot of assistance comes from
those P.O. personnel who go the xtra mile, or possibly your rela-
tionship w/ those people (business relationship, i mean).
at one time the trail of the package as it went thru various dis-
tribution points was traceable online - i rarely check now, and do
not know if this trail is still viewable on the track-and-confirm
USPS website; and the use of "track"-and-confirm means TRACKING the
delivery of the package, NOT the actual trail.
i have had priority envelopes/packages that have taken one day to
arrive almost across the country, and sometimes i've had priority
items that took 10 days to go two states - USUALLY the service is
fairly reliable. i'm not knowledgable of anyone else who will de-
liver an envelope to the middle of nowhere for $.39 (for a little
while, at least).
USPS DOES have tracking available for their higher priced spreads.
