The BC-4xx sets were under the umbrella of SCR-274-N and were Army Signal Corps
units. The ARC-5s were the Navy version.

There are manuals for both systems (and a WHOLE LOT of other stuff) is
available as high quality .pdfs here for free:

http://www.royalsignals.org.uk/

Please read and follow the directions on the site for requesting the manual
specific password(s).

You'd be best off joining the ARC-5, MilSurplus, or WS 19 groups and posting
your request there. The stuff does show up on eBay, but really mint sets can be
expensive. The good news is the aluminum finish units are often cheaper than
black painted ones.

I don't know about the B-17, but the full Consolidated B-24 Radio Manual will
appear on RoyalSignal in the not very distant future.
