"Insulting" is not relevant, again, it is about
math not feelings.

More Hams will refuse to pay any of the shipping
and items will cost you more that they otherwise
might.

The problem is not just AK & HI, there have been
some other destinations that are part of the USA
that have shipping premiums.

Blame the shippers for inequality in pricing not
fellow Hams whom you expect to eat the difference.

If the shippers did not charge a huge extra
amount to ship to certain states and locales
then it would be improper to say CONUS but
the reality is that it does cost more to ship
there and that has to be considered in the
transaction.
