I also learned the hard way when I purchased a used Icom CI-V CT-17 on
eBay. After I received it and opened it up to see the innards I realized
this was not the real thing, e.g. wiring from the circuit board to the db9,
but, guess what the CT-17 didn't use a db9 rather a db25 and the connector
is attached to the mother board in the real thing. The circuit board was
homebrewed as the parts didn't even match the schematic of the unit. I
notified the seller and he told me it was the real thing as stated by the
person he purchased the item from then he said he was sorry and that was
the last I heard from him. I filed a complaint with PayPal because eBay
said that was who the complaint had to be filed with - that didn't make
much sense to me but I did as instructed. I then put my response to the
purchase to the seller's record indicating the unit was not the real thing
and the seller refused to do anything about it. He replied that I used the
unit for several weeks and then broke it and then wanted a refund. Of
course he neglected to mention this item was not the real thing as
advertised. I just received notification from PayPal indicating the seller
was going to refund the entire amount plus the shipping. I will believe it
when I see the refund.
