Sorry for the repost to the list but I know there was
quite a bit of interest in this generator and it's
available again.
The individual buying my signal generator has informed
me he must change plans after being notified this
morning that a layoff will affect his job. A sign of
the times that's getting all too common lately...
HP 8640B Signal Generator, with Options 1 (besides the
standard fixed 400 Hz and 1000 Hz audio modulation,
Option 1 provides a modulation oscillator that is
continuously settable from 20 Hz to 600 kHz. and
Option 3 (provides reverse power protection to 50
watts to the generator's output attenuator and
amplifier. It is particularly useful when using the
generator to test transceivers), 450 KHz to 550 MHz
range, an industry standard and one of the best signal
generators around. -140 dBm to +19 dBm .... extremely
accurate signal source with very low phase noise.
Calibrated output and modulation, provides for
complete RF and IF performance tests on virtually any
type of HF, VHF, or UHF receiver. It provides AM, FM
and pulse modulation for a wide range of receiver test
applications. This modulation is calibrated and
metered for direct readout under all operating
conditions.
The generator has been trouble free and operates as it
should and the frequency and output track my
calibrated measuring devices within specification.
There are a few scratches and dings as one would
expect in a 25 year old instrument but overall it
looks nice. The only flaw to really mention is a
common fault with the 8640B, identified at one time or
another on all of them to various degrees. There is a
small "hitch" or rough spot when turning the range
selector on one position. This is caused by a crack
in a nylon gear on the FM deviation universal (it also
turns with the range switch). The cause of this
generally is a tech that overtightened the setscrew in
the gear at one time. It doesn't affect operation at
all at this time and after market new metal or used
nylon gears are available to repair it if it ever
breaks... which I doubt after all this time that it
ever will if used gently.
$325 plus UPS shipping (figure 70 lbs) from 54970.
Respond off list if you are interested.
