Greetings all,
A friend of mine who teaches school and is trying to get a ham club going at
his school asked me for some help on an old EMC sig gen. Is there anyone on
the list who might have a schematic/manual or know anything about this puppy?
(Part of his message to me is quoted below).
TNX/73, Al
>When we talked the other night, you mentioned a signal generator. That
jogged my memory, and this morning I found what seems to be a signal
generator. The big problem is that it has no instructions with it, nor
do I know if it actually works. We got it with a whole bunch of stuff
that was donated to help our school club get started.
The face says "Electronic Measurements Corp. New York, N.Y. U.S.A." at
the bottom. Just below the dial it says "E M CM Model 502 Signal
Generator." The upper left corner has a slide switch "Mod. R.F. and
R.F." Lower left corner is a rotary switch which selects one of six
ranges. Lower right corner is a pot labeled R.F. Attenuator, calibrated
from 0 to 100. The center is a circular scale, 3 concentric rings, each
of which is divided in half, which gives the six ranges. The only output
that I see is in the lower center, where there are two RCA jacks, one
labeled EXT. MOD. and the other labeled R.F. OUTPUT. There is a
two-conductor AC power cord attached that looks to be in good shape.
Inside are various full-size (!) components including a 12AT7 tube. What
makes me nervous about plugging it in is that many of the connections
are made in such a way that bare wires could touch. I'm thinking that
before I plug it in I'd like to correct some of the more obvious
problems. Question: does the length of the hookup wire make any
difference? If not, I'll use a length that won't permit interference
with other components.<
