Hello-
I have a few FAA VHF Airband AM transceivers for sale. These are the ITT Areospace # FA-8191 emergency / backup transceiver. Here is some info :
    1. All solid state, 110 VAC. Around 1980 era. Rackmount or tabletop, about 21" deep and 8" tall.
    2. Synthesized in 25 Khz. steps using thumbwheel counter.
    3. Very interesting receiver : Multiple helical front end filters diode selected, double balanced passive mixer { Anzac MS-504 DBM or Olektron DBM} with two stage { Comdel amp. module and a gold TO-39 size FET that I cannot see a part # on} IF post amplifier. Has crystal filter at 20.6 Mhz. IF, and further amplification in IF module.Has good speaker volume. The front end helical filters are interesting : the band is divided into 3 segments with a 6-element filter for each segment.Really pretty silver plated filter assemblies.
    4. Modular construction. Has nice quality T-R relay { rear panel mounted, has N-female for antenna and TNC conn. for rcvr. and trans. ports} , bandpass filters, teflon coax interconnects, etc.
    5. Has power sensor for forward / reverse power, multi-meter on front panel serves as S-meter also.
    6. Front panel controls for squelch, volume, transmit test, has mic. jack and audio out jacks {1/4" phone}.
These sets are faily heavy. They are in shipping boxes as received by FAA, about 70 pounds. The boxes are still intact, from paperwork it appears the sets were sent to repair facility. I have opened up 2 and they are used but clean, and both of them are working as far as receiving signals and putting out 20 watts into dummy load. I have no technical information but it appears these sets have a fairly sophisticated control circuitry.
If anyone is interested I can open these up, check them for receive and transmit power and re-pack them in shipping boxes and ship UPS / Fed-Ex. Price is 150.00 each plus shipping.
