Two good-working, good-looking, guaranteed o'scopes:
The Heath O-12 is the early version of the IO-12, which has a similar
circuit, but is noticably different on the face. The 50's-era O-12 has a
grey finish with grey-plastic knobs, top-centered, round-face CRT with no
graticule, green pilot lamp jewel, etc. Works great - billed as a
"Laboratory Oscilloscope", it has better-than-hobby-grade circuitry,
including push-pull amps and a voltage reg. HWD is 13x8.5x17; wt. 17 lbs.
Probably rated 5cps to 500kc - I have a schematic, but no manual. Details
on request. $25 OGO plus shipping.
Tektronix 321 - this is one of the rare 3" models (310, 315, 316, 317, 321,
360 and variants are what's listed in Griffiths' book). Works very well,
looks good inside and out. While rated DC - 5mHz, it doesn't quite make it -
4.5 is the best it'll do. Has the CRT front frame from the 321A, which
accepts a camera. #7586 Nuvistor amp. checks perfect. Negatives: minor
corrosion in the battery tray; power switch is broken (in the ON posn,
fortunately!); power connectors are missing (AC cord is soldered to the
pins - easily removable). Input BNC jack is tarnished (easily replaceable)
Missing front stand and original rear feet (I subbed a couple). Wt ~ 10
lbs, measures ~ 7.5x6x16
I had to repair the nylon drive block to the input attenuator pot - it's
actually better than original now! I can probably replace the power switch,
but I'd need that part of the manual - I'll run any reasonable tests a buyer
suggests. $100 OGO plus shipping.
I collect old o'scopes and other t.e, so if you have a 7" model taking up
space, or a Hickok 305, etc., I'm interested. I also look for transmitters
like the Heath DX-20/35/40, AMECO, EICO, and the like - they needn't be
working or complete.
Looking thru Griffiths' book 'flung a craving' on me for the 1L5 spectrum
analyzer plug-in. What 'scopes might this work in besides the 549? My HP
'specalyzer' only goes down to 100k, and that barely; is the 1L5 a better
choice than a normal, calibrated o'scope? I can test old sig-gennies using
interpolation (LIssajous figures) and my URM-25F, but it's tedious, to say
the least. e
