Remember the Moscow Woodpecker? I sure as heck do!
I was a Novice in 1974 and not long thereafter the Ruskies
started experimenting with 'over the horizon HF radar' in
the days before mondo satellites like we have now. The
signal strength, estimated at as high as 500kw, occurred in
a swept range over the HF spectrum and when it came on
HF communication was obliterated in the West. I recall SO
MANY QSO's on CW being lost to the 'pop pop pop pop'
of that damn radar.
Anyway, AEA Electronics came out with the short-lived
Moscow Muffler to act as a high energy noise blanker to
help kill the effect. I bought this back in the early 80's as
a nostalgia piece, but have never even powered it up. Nice
little box - could also I'm sure be modified into a noise blanker
of more general use. SO-239 jacks on the rear, numerous
controls on front.
Anyway, $15 plus postage and it's yours. Sold untested, but
not much in it so I'm sure it's fine.
