This is a nice DX oriented listening station I have put together. It is
based on a modified R-71 that was used in a monitoring station. The low
quality AM 6 K filter has been replaced with a high quality metal case
Murata 3k filter that while not the best for high fidelity SWBC listening is
fantastic for SWBC DXing. Don't get me wrong it still sounds fine ! The CW
filter is also installed so you can do utility DXing ! Also the Mute jack on
the back ordinarily used with a transmitter has been converted to an extra
REC OUT jack so that wire is not going across the front of the radio. I am
also including a whip antenna (that extends to several feet) that I put
together that hooks up to the coax jack on the back of the R71, it does
surprisingly well !! due to the RF amp of the R71. take your 71 to the back
yard !
I am also including a nice external speaker that significantly improves the
sound of the R71. So you can record your great catches I am including a NICE
GE tape recorder with AC adapter. You just need to supply an attenuating
patch cord that can be bought at Radio Shack.
AND you get a CD that I put together that includes the Service manual, user
manual (you still get a printed copy) and articles on maintaining and
improving the R-71 !
AND so you pull in those weak signals I am including a big coil of wire !
All this can be checked out at :
