Hello.
Hope this isn't too far off topic. Please reply off list to keep clutter
down.
My Aftronics SuperSCAF audio filter arrived. This is a SCAF filter that
uses 4 thumbwheel switches to select the cutoff frequencies of both a Low
Pass and a High pass filter, thus creating a variable bandwidth filter. It
appears to have possibly been a kit, though it is well built.
Anyway, all I received with it is a schematic of the unit (more than I often
receive). After playing with the thumbwheels (BCD) for awhile I sort of
figured out how to set them up for a center frequency of about 700Hz (set
them at HP07 and LP06).
Preliminary tests showed that it's performance is 'similar' to that of the
Datong FL-3 when the latter is set up for about 700Hz and narrowest
bandwidth, though the Datong is still sharper. No surprise, I found that by
cascading the two units I actually got much better filtering action without
ringing, especially as evidenced by removal of junk off to the side. Not a
"huge" difference but enough to be noticable, and of course when working
near the noise floor levels or next to strong qrm every little bit helps.
MY QUESTION: Does anyone have either the instructions OR the specification
sheet for this unit. It was apparently marketed about 1988 (drawing is
dated Feb 1988).
