Hello
I have for sale a nice RCA Victor Strato-World portable radio, model
1MBT6. This looks like RCA's Solid State answer to the Zenith
Trans-Oceanic series of radios and was built in 1958. Apparently at least
"semi-rare" as I haven't run across anybody that was even aware that RCA
made this model (I won't go into all those 'rare' expletives they use in
the E-place). This set has NO printed circuit boards but uses ALL point to
point wiring, made in the USA!

The unit is in nice condition, I'd say a 8/10 cosmetically. It has a real
leatherette covered wood case with front cover that lifts ala the old tube
type TransOceanics. With it's large wood cabinet and speaker it has much
better 'tone' than todays plastic radios. It has all original knobs,
antenna straight, original owners "booklet" etc. A few minor flaws in the
cabinet but no rips or tears in the fabric. The Gold/brass colored metal
trim is discolored, I think this might be mostly "clearcoat"
degradation. I chose to leave it as-is as proper cosmetic restoration is
not my 'speciality'. Looks very nice for a 44 year old radio!

The battery box was messed up from leaked batteries. I totally cleaned it
up and "rebuilt" it so that it's clean, solid and complete. Cleaned all
controls and switches etc. It plays properly on all bands.

Here's some technical information on the set.

1. 7 Bands with nice large, lit sliderule dial.
       A. BCB band 550-1500kc (with Conalrad markings).
       B. 2.0 to 4.0 MC.
       C. 4.0 to 8.0MC.
       31M. 9.45MC to 9.9MC.
       25M. 11.55MC to 12.1MC.
       19M. 14.9MC to 15.55MC.
       16M 17.5MC to 18.25MC.

2. Circuit design. 8 Transistors WITH RF amplifier gives reasonably good
sensitivity, even on the BCB .

3. Controls. Volume/pwr, Tone, Dial light, tuning, Band switch, Phone
jack, Phono input jack.

4. Antennas. Loop antenna in the lid, Telescoping for shortwave.

5. Size: 15" wide, 10" high, 6 inches deep. When lid is open it is 18
inches high and has a very nice world map in the lid.

6. Battery pack. 9 "D" cells which should last a very long time as
current draw is rated at 20mA at 'normal' volume. (Not sure what 'normal'
volume is :)

What you get: Radio, Owners booklet, copy of the Sams Photofact on this set.

What I'm asking: $90.00 Postal money order plus some help on shipping (it
will go UPS in an oversized box). Will ship ONLY to the lower 48.
