Hello Listers -
I have for sale a US Army surplus communications shelter, model S-250.
This is the one that looks similar to a short-bed camper and is normally
mounted on a 4x4, 3/4-ton military truck. They were built for many types
of uses and are extremely sturdy.
This one is in excellent condition other than faded paint and somewhat
dirty inside from sitting for months. It was originally constructed to be a
portable radar site and still have the racks and framing for equipment as
well as the power panels with meters, circuit breakers, etc. inside. This
one is a bit different than the "normal" S-250 shelter because it is also
100% RF shielded. It is approximately 7' long, 6' wide and 5'-6" high.
It weighs about 850-Lbs as it sits and it's uses for hams is limited only
to your imagination. If you like little "cubby-holes" for you ham station,
this will work nicely. There is room on one side for all your gear on a
desktop and the other side can store a workbench, parts, etc. It is not
something to be moved around a lot but, put in place and used. It also
makes an excellent repeater vault for a mountaintop installation which
there are several of in Nevada. These are constructed of steel square
tubing and welded at every joint. The inner and outer skin is 18ga steel
and the 1-1/4" thick shell is filled with expanded foam insulation and
sealed.
The particulars are that I am near Reno, Nevada. It is in my back yard
and I am moving to Oregon later this summer and it isn't coming with
me. I have used it as a storage shed for nearly two years but, it is now
empty and ready to load up and haul away. I am asking $350.00 and
you arrange your own transportation for it. It can be moved by an auto
wrecker with a flat-bed recovery type vehicle. Car transporters will move
it across country for a reasonable price so long as you aren't particular
about how soon it arrives. It is recommended that you rent an auto
trailer with a winch (manual is fine) and haul it away yourself if you live
within driving distance. The trailer would cost you roughly $75 to rent
from U-Haul for a weekend. I will assist with loading as I brought it home
the same way. I have an easy way to load it on the trailer if you have
ramps for a vehicle also.
If you are interested, I do not have close-up photos of the van but, I do
have one at a distance. The photos are of the second van that I have
been working on for our ARES group which will be mounted on a trailer.
See: http://www.cvrc.net/ares/photos/nnars.html The top photo has
the van I am selling in the background. The one in the foreground is
a little different configuration but, when empty, the same size as the
one I am selling. There are no large "portholes" in the one I am selling,
only one opening about 6" diameter where the waveguide was routed
outside the shelter.
I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone may have and willing to
consider offers.
