[ForSale-Swap] Ham Traders Beware

I sold an amplifier to a ham and took it to UPS today for shipment...

UPS has new rules as of this week...despite the fact that the amp was in the
original carton with the original packing they would not accept it unless I
re-boxed it inside another carton...yes that is correct it was in the
manufacturers original carton with original packing....

In an effort to cut down on the amount of insurance claims against them, UPS
has adopted tougher packaging requirements...

What I was shipping today was a transceiver and an amp...the amp was in
three boxes and all were insured....apparently anything insured for over 500
dollars is subject to inspection as to worthiness of packaging...

I was damned proud of the job I had done packing up the amp but they
insisted they would not take it and they would help me repackage it into
another carton by selling me a large carton and they would supply me with
foam to place between the two cartons...

The foam was the expanding kind in a plastic bag that suddenly gets hot as
hell when it starts to expand...and you place it and watch it grow.

I was not the only one caught today with the new regs...I was at the local
UPS terminal here in Tampa for almost two hours.

BEWARE - allow yourself extra time and you might wanna phone ahead if you
are shipping something of value via UPS.
