Hello all
My interests are REALLY SWLing and longwave beacon chasing and I have very
little interest in "hamming".
SO, after considering all, I think that rather than buying a microphone etc
and putting it on the air that I will Swap for a PREMIUM receiver or sell
the Rig outright.
Here is what I have and it's condition.
Cubic Astro-103 WITH narrow CW filter and PSU-6A power supply. Digital and
all Solid State. Go HERE for complete specifications:
http://www.qsl.net/k9gdt/radio/cubic/103.htm
Here's the condition of mine.
Astro-103
1. Appearance: Very nice, front at least 9.5, cover at least an 8.5 as it
has a shallow "dent" perhaps 3/4 inch long at the right rear quadrant and
a couple very minor paint chips. A friend of mine who works part time at a
local body shop told me that small dent would "work out" easily with a steel
block and a piece of wood, smack the steel with a large hammer (OUCH!). I
don't like to try such things.
2. Contains the hard to find CW narrow filter.
3. Serial Number 282,
4. Everything seems to work 100%. I don't have a microphone, but did key
the transmitter in CW mode (into a resonant antenna) and obtained a 100 Watt
carrier.
5. It seems VERY stable after a short warmup time (unlike some older Swans
that do drift ;-) PTO's were a little erratic, but some DeOxit D5 took care
of that and I've sat and listened to net frequencies for hours with no
problem.
PSU-6A power supply
1. Works 100%.
2. Does NOT have the overvoltage mod, something the buyer might want to do.
3. Cosmetically not "quite" as nice as the Astro. Front looks quite nice.
No dents, but has some very light brown stains on the left side, possibly
light surface rust (not really sure). I made NO attempt to remove them as
it is a "textured" paint and I don't want to mess it up.
4. Sombody spliced an "extra" length of wire into the DC cable to make it
longer.
I have NO manual (available at W7FG manuals). Does include an "extra" DC
cable I made to run the radio on my 13.6VDC station battery.
WHAT I WANT!
Will Swap for a PREMIUM general coverage receiver WITH Longwave (100kHz to
30MHz). Depending on what you have to offer perhaps a receiver and some
green stuff ;-)
Some Models I'm interested in, must be in very good conditions, and
preferably with Narrow CW and SSB filters. (I do LOT of weak signal CW
beacon work).
1. Icom R-75 with DSP & optional filters.
2. Kenwood R-5000 with optional AM, narrow SSB & CW filters.
3. JRC NRD535, NRD535D
4. Drake R8B.
5. Yaesu FRG-100B with optional narrow filters (and some green?).
6. A very nice (and perfect working) Collins R-390A with all meters, covers
etc. (NO St Julians' Creek "blue stripers" please:) This one is only a
'maybe' as I'd like to see it first (local trade).
OR WHAT RECEIVER HAVE YOU?
Or CASH OF $700.00 (I did some research and have seen postings where three
sets have sold for $600, $800 & $1000 each, not sure if that also included
CW filter and PSU6A)
SHIPPING NOTE: As this would need to go in two separate double boxed
cartons (radio
and P/S) I would need help on shipping if the unit isn't picked up
locally. Unit is rather heavy and I'm on limited income.
