All:

Just a cheap plug for the Clearwater Amateur Radio Society VE team... CARS
has a Laurel VEC accredited team, and offers FREE amateur testing. So far in
our first year of FREE testing we have served 87 applicants and saved each
one of them the $14.00 they would have paid elsewhere. The total savings to
date is $1218.00. Perhaps our December test session will bring us 13 more
applicants for an even 100 applicants, or $1400 that could have been spent
elsewhere.

The December test date is Monday December 12, 2005. The test site is The
Salvation Army Facility 1625 North Belcher Rd. Clearwater. Testing begins
promptly at 7:15pm..

Test sessions are open to all. You do not have to be a CARS member to enjoy
these savings. In 2005 The CARS VE Team has traveled south across the Skyway
to provide free tests and we have had some applicants drive over 60 miles to
attend our monthly FREE test session

In 2006 The Cars Test Sessions will once again be held on the second Monday
of each month, same time same location. Once again they will be FREE.

When restructuring become effective your CARS VE Team will do a FREE
Midnight Madness Session to process license upgrades FREE of charge.

AMATEUR RADIO TECHNICIAN CLASS LICENSE COURSE

Hillsborough County ARES/RACES will be offering an amateur radio
technician class license course in a traditional classroom setting to
members of the Hillsborough County Community Emergency Response Teams
(CERT). This class is also open to members of the general public who
are interested in becoming an amateur radio operator.

Classes will be held on two consecutive Saturdays from 8:00 AM until
5:00 PM at the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
located at 2711 East Hanna Avenue Tampa, FL 33610. The dates for
this course are Saturday January 21, 2006 and again on Saturday
January 28, 2006

There is no charge for taking the course itself, however the textbook
being used for the course costs $19.95 and is entitled "Now You're
Talking!" 5th edition (ISBN: 0-87259-881-0) published by the American
Radio Relay League.

You can contact the ARRL toll-free at (888) 277-5289 to order your
copy of the textbook. You may have them charge your credit card or
you can send them a check or money order for the textbook.

Amateur radio practice tests for this license course are available
on-line at http://www.qrz.com/p/testing.pl Choose the Technician
Class exam pool.

There will be an amateur radio testing session at the EOC at the
conclusion of the course to administer the FCC technician class
amateur radio exam. The cost of taking the FCC exam is $14.00. The
course instructors and the test examiners are separate groups of
people in order to ensure the integrity of the exam process.

The total cost to become a licensed amateur radio operator by
attending this classroom course is $34.00.

Please e-mail races at hillsboroughcounty.org or call the Hillsborough
County ARES/RACES office located at the EOC at (813) 224-8544 to
reserve your seat in the class.

Check this e-mail distribution list, attend your local amateur radio
club, or check into local amateur radio nets for future Hillsborough
County ARES/RACES training activities, exercises, and public service events.
