Yes, I remember a few years back our tiny hamfest up in Maryland
at a rural county fairgrounds, when we all went bereserk because
they doubled the rental fee for the fairgrounds to try to
offset county revenue losses. That was the end of that hamfest.
Similar things happened to the great Timonium and Gaithersburg Hamfests up in
Maryland.
Now they either shut down, move away or drastically raise the entrance fee. The
hamfests get smaller as a result, and then there is even MORE need to raise fees.
Gaithersburg never really recovered.
This nonsense by local governments does not bode well!
Those two major hamfests were at one time, not too long ago,
only running 2nd and 3rd in attendance behind Dayton.
That is UNTIL the county got stupid and doubled or tripled the
rental fees. Now the fairgrounds sit empty most weekends.
They could have probably made more money if they didn't want
such a huge increase all at once.
