I agree Paul,
I believe even more so, that as QST removes the information that is of
interest to it's members, maybe it is time to ask ARRL to explain why QST is
still a feasible expense to use member funds to produce a magazine that is
an advertisement instead of a informative publication. It has become less
respected in the electronics industry due to the lack of technical info and
an increase in useless advertisements.

Subject: [FLham] re: Section News
Maybe the question that begets asking...of every ARRL member, is "What do
YOU want out of this organization?".
Many ARRL members think of this organization strictly as a "publishing
house". They do not view the ARRL as a political advocate for Amateur
Radio. They do not get involved with the Section field organization. And
they don't bother to VOTE in any ARRL elections, as witnessed here in the
Southeastern Division last Fall when 63% of the members did not vote in the
Vice Director's election.
The only CONSTANT is CHANGE! And at the pace communications technology
keeps re-inventing itself, blink and you are three iterations behind.
Contesting continues to grow because it is challenging, fun and a skill
builder. Participation in public service events like the Florida Gulf
Beaches Marathon on January 20th is also challenging, fun, skill building
and a teamwork builder. But how many licensed Hams, muchless ARRL members
make an effort to get involved? How many really understand that "Amateur
Radio IS a Contact Sport'?
You can't be apathetic about Amateur Radio or the ARRL. You have got to be
a player, get involved and work at it everyday. I do not oppose change if
the benefits and improved service outweigh the status quo. The elimination
of Section News from QST is not one of those cases. Section News plays to
the heart of what the ARRL is (or should be). And QST is the only delivery
mechanism currently in place to assure each and every ARRL member access to
this information. If anything, the ARRL needs to print Section News in a
larger typeface so as not to cause terminal eyestrain!
