[FLARES] SFL SET

I recently provided our SFL ECs with this information about our upcoming
SET:

"The week of May 16th to May 23rd will be the SFL Section SET.  This will be
a hurricane drill as we have had in the past.  All of the information for
the drill will be sent on the FLARES reflector followed up with special
sessions of SFAN on HF and VHF SSB.  There will be a CAT exercise here is
Broward County, for the first time, on May 22nd and 23rd.  Please try to
arrange for your CAT to participate in our annual training exercise.  There
will be no charge for camping and the Browand CAT will be supplying food for
a minimal charge.  Let me know if you have any questions."

Here are some of the questions I have received about this:

Q1 - Why don't we have our SET with the state exercise?

A1 - In 1993 we had our first SFL Section SET to test the CATs we had formed
following Hurricane Andrew in 1992.  The exercise was much like the one we
will do this year, a hurricane drill with the advisories, HF nets and the
CAT exercise over the weekend.

In 1994 the state started doing there exercise, modeled after the one we did
in 1993, I have been told.  The state exercise is held during regular
business hours during the week for the state employees.  That is why we have
ours on the evenings and weekends and they have theirs during the week.

Q2 - How can I sign-up for the advisories on FLARES?

Q3 - Can I have some more information about the CAT exercise and where it
will be?

A3 - When we have the CAT exercise it is not a surprise.  The CAT exercise
will begin on Saturday morning, May 22nd.  I will "officially" announce the
CAT deployment on SFAN, 3940 KHz, at 8:00 AM.

The exercise will be held a Markham Park here is Broward County.  Take I-95,
or the Turnpike, to I-595.  Go west on I-595 and exit at the 136th Ave.
exit.  Go west on SR-84 to the park entrance.  We will have talk-in on the
Motorola ARC repeater, 146.19/79, CSQ access.

The Broward CAT will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs on Saturday.  Dinner
Saturday night will be steaks, baked potato and corn on the cob.  Breakfast
Sunday morning will be either omelets made to order or pancakes and sausage.
Lunch Saturday and Breakfast Sunday are $5 and the steak dinner on Saturday
night is $10.

We will have several stations operating VHF FM and SSB and packet.  On HF
CW, SSB and Pactor.  Maybe some other stuff such as SSTV too.
