I have a county in the SFL section that is planning a 
new county administration building. The new building 
will house the Emergency Management office. Target 
date for completion is 2007 but they have invited 
volunteer communications groups to provide input. 
Here’s the concerns so far – 1) it’s 5 degrees off the 
main runway path and within ¼ mile from airport 
property, 2) a “small profile” is requested (read no 
yagi wanted) and 3) two towers that would be needed to 
house all the uhf, vhf, hf amateur and other volunteer 
communications antennas plus county access cable 
antennas and county/state communications antennas 
would be “unsightly” (Two towers are needed because 
the towers will be close to the building which is 49 
feet high and nothing can be mounted on the pitched 
roof). 

Now for the input I need – does anyone have a county 
EOC with remote towers? Are they linked via fiber 
optic cable or other means? Is anyone close to an 
airport that has solved this dilemma?
