RE: ST. L UCIE SIREN TEST=20
St. Lucie County Department of Public Safety and Martin County =
Department of Emergency Services, will be conducting a test of the =
outdoor warning sirens for FP&L's St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant, at =
noon, Thursday, March 6, 2003.=20
The test will involve a one-minute sounding of all 89 sirens within the =
10-mile St. Lucie Emergency Planning Zone. Before and after the sirens =
sound, a message will be broadcast on the sirens public address system =
stating "this is only a test." at the end of the final test announcement =
there will be a 10 second wail of the sirens.=20
The testing of the siren system is to improve public awareness of its =
function and ensure its operability.=20
In the unlikely event of an actual emergency at the St. Lucie Nuclear =
Power Plant, tile sirens would sound for a five minute period. This =
would be followed by official instructions and another 5 minute sounding =
of thc siren system. Detailed instructions for the general population =
would begin being broadcast over local radio and television.=20
As part of our effort to inform the general public we ask that you =
include this information during your news broadcast the evening of March =
5,2003 and morning of March 6,2003, as a public service announcement.
