[FLARES] HURRICANE WILFRED ADVISORY NUMBER 19

Would you take your radio comms during a drill to a frequency other than
the one(s) you would be using in a real emergency? Would you use an old
"spare" radio for drilling because you didn't want to wear out your new
good one but you'd never think twice about taking that "old" radio to a
deployment? I don't think so. You test and "drill" the equipment and
procedures you'd actually be using. You perform like you practice.

A separate "drill" list would be inappropriate.

What might be considered (this is where I do agree somewhat) is that the
"drill" portion using the FLARES list might be cut short. I wouldn't
see harm in that but, then again, I don't see harm in carrying on. I
can "delete" rather quickly. The concept, procedure and implementation
of using a form of communication, such as this email list, can be tested
then after determining it works as intended could be discontinued.

The content contained in these test messages would be of interest to ALL
in Florida ARES. Now, if these were specific directives to or
communications among the members of a local ARES drill group, then THAT
might be considered an abuse of this list. In those cases the local
group, if desiring to use the internet email system, might develop their
own "local" intranet system.

Ron, I disagree.

Several messages for a local drill (SFL is only one of 3 FL ARES
sections)
would be one thing but day after day after day of drill messages starts
taking on the feeling of spam for those not taking part in the drill
(i.e.
feeling "I'm tired of pushing delete). It clogs the list and results in
the
urge to unsubscribe, thus defeating the stated purpose of the list.

I would suggest a separate list just for the drill. They are fast and
easy
to set up on Yahoo.
