I saw this today in the ARRL newsletter. N0ECN has filed a petition to eliminate CW sub-bands and reclassify them "symbol" sidebands with CW being just one of the "symbol" modes. The FCC Petition site is here - http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/comment/view?id=60001692464 The ARRL story is here - http://www.arrl.org/news/missouri-radio-amateur-petitions-fcc-to-designate-s ymbol-communication-subbands I am not going to comment on this now as I have not had time to read the whole petition but I thought the CW groups I participate in should be aware. As a mere Brit*, I have no official say in the matter, but this is the final crumbling of the structure of ham radio as we know it. The start was the abolition (in UK, as in many other places) of the compulsory first year on CW. Then came No Code licences, now this. I, for one, was going to bin the key after that first year of purgatory; but, I learned, and it was eight years before I built a modulator**, which I soon gave away. 73 de Mort, SV5/G2JL * Inhabitant of England, a small country in Europe (q.v.) ** An audio amplifier for imposing Amplitude Modulation (q.v.) In the same spirit as ARRL's Straight Key Night, participants are encouraged to make simple, conversational, ?chewing-the-fat? QSOs using their bug type keys. This is an opportunity to exercise, share and exhibit your personalized fist. This is NOT a contest. Call "CQ BR" so folks know you are a Bug Roundup Participant. For more information on this event and how to participate please visit the SFM ARC Bug Roundup Event web page at http://w6sfm.com/Bug_Roundup.html We hope to hear you all on the air this weekend! 73, Michael N6MQL -- From ac5shfistop at gmail.com Wed May 18 14:45:33 2016 From: ac5shfistop at gmail.com (Tim O) Date: Wed, 18 May 2016 13:45:33 -0500 Subject: [Fists] Dayton In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Come see us at Dayton in the Fists booth, NH0136! It?s June 24 ? 26 this year. - Each year our club, the Associated Radio Amateurs of Long Beach, has one of the biggest Field Day events in Southern California. We usually operate 5A or 6A (6 simultaneous transmitters) with the call sign of W6RO (temporarily suspended from use on the Queen Mary). We operate from Recreation Park in Long Beach the whole 24 hours. A lot of people stop by. This year a local high school radio club will man one of the stations. Many of us camp out overnight Friday and Saturday?though you don?t have to. Lots of food is available and a lot of socializing too. Some of us, of course, see it as a contest. (It IS a contest, right?) - The thing is, I?ve been the only CW operator for several years and would like some help operating, also setting up on Friday, and tearing down on Sunday. The work is not heavy but I?d like to have some company?and run up a big score! In the past, I?ve made a 40 meter Moxon (2 element wire beam) antenna and a 20 meter Moxon antenna and hoisted them up high between 2 eucalyptus trees (pointed northeast). Works great and the physical antenna separation and the front-to-back ratio keeps the same-band phone station out of my ears (and mine out of theirs). (We have a lot of land to work with at Rec Park.) Out club setup is quite a sight! - If you?re interested and/or would like more information, give me a call, or email me. CW speed not an issue. I always wondered who was the excellent operator of that station on Field Day. Now I can state my admiration. Fine operating, RG. There are some recordings of the Queen here: http://tinyurl.com/djringjr Scroll down and you will see it. 73 David N1EA On May 19, 2016 5:36 PM, "RGrubic--- via FISTS" wrote: > > > > CW colleague wanted! > - > A great opportunity for a CW op in Southern California who is not already > attached to another club or group?or who would like a change. > - > I?m looking for a CW operator to team up with me for Field Day.
