Message-ID: The 2016 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt is only one week away! Although it seems like a lot of Skeeters are being hunted this year; assuredly the NJQRP Skeeters will be out hunting only for fun! I'm not going to bore you will the rules, you can go read those for yourself at http://www.qsl.net/w2lj/ I did want to make everyone aware of two things, however. First, you still have until next Saturday to apply for a Skeeter number, Remember, you don't have to operate from the field to be a Skeeter; but it's SOOO much fun - why would you ever not want to? Just send an e-mail to w2lj at arrl.net and you will be added to the roster. You will get a confirming e-mail back containing your Skeeter #. If you applied in the past, but did not receive an e-mail back from W2LJ, you need to check the Skeeter Roster. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KJWpvDDBZibCMqna_qGXF3Ayg8KdEw5f1N8K6ByGMe4/edit#gid=880964485 If you don't see your call sign and name, then you will need to send another e-mail Secondly, after the Hunt, and you've recovered from all the fun you had - don't forget to send in your log summaries. QSO by QSO logs are not necessary; but photos, videos and soapbox comments are encouraged and are most welcome. That's the other half of the fun of the NJQRP Skeeter Hunt - seeing how and what your friends and QRP contemeporaries are doing. I've tried to make the rules as simnple and self=explanatory as possible; bt should you still have a question, please do not hesitate to fire off an e-mail to w2lj at arrl.net Happy Hunting! 72 de Larry W2L NJQRP Skeeter Hunt Manager From ac5shfistop at gmail.com Sat Aug 20 20:02:25 2016 From: ac5shfistop at gmail.com (Tim O) Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2016 19:02:25 -0500 Subject: [Fists] Yes, submitting a qualifying log gets you in the drawing for a big prize and GYFW is now underway! Message-ID: HI Folks I am told participation in this event has been very low, judging by logs submitted. Do you know what that means? It means that if you submit your qualifying log, chances are very good that you will win the gift certificate. It also means that if we don't start seeing more logs, this event is likely to go away, and that would sadden me because it is one of my favorites. As I understand it, one must be a current (paid up) Fists member to win by submitting a log but the stations you work do not have to be. Just make sure they know you are doing the GYFW event and give them your number. You can call CQ Feet Wet or CQ GYFW, or just make a general CQ then spring it on them. Hi hi Club officers are of course not eligible to win the prizes but can certainly work the event and I am hoping to wind up in YOUR log. 73 Tim, AC5SH >From the website: GET YOUR FEET WET ACTIVITY DAY One of the biggest challenges with learning to operate CW is overcoming the "fright" of making those first contacts and learning to be comfortable in operating the CW mode. The purpose of this FISTS activity is to provide new or less experienced amateurs the opportunity to make CW contacts and learn to enjoy the mode. Operating in contests, QSO parties, or DX pileups is not a very good place to try operating CW for the first time. This activity will provide a periodic opportunity to encourage new and inexperienced amateurs to get on the air and practice operating CW. Hopefully many experienced CW operators will be willing to get on the air, slow down their CW, and help "Elmer" our new and less experienced members. This weekend activity is designed to provide you with the opportunity to practice your CW operating and gain some valuable experience. IT IS NOT A CONTEST. The activity will be held on the Third Sunday of every month. Operating times will be 0001 UTC to 2400 UTC. This activity will be conducted on the 80 and 40 meter bands, on or near the following Suggested Frequencies: 3.558 and 7.110. Suggested items for exchange are: Name, QTH, FISTS#, RST. Remember these are the minimum items and you can exchange whatever you want because this is not a contest. If you participate in a GYFW Activity, and submit a log showing a minimum of five (5) QSO's, you will have a chance to win a gift certificate at the end of the year. There will be two winners. The first will receive a $250 gift certificate and the second a $150 gift certificate. A random drawing will be held after the last GYFW Activity of 2016. Only active and life FISTS CW Club members are eligible to win the gift certificate, and winners can choose the amateur radio company from whom they want the gift certificate. When you send in your log, be sure to include some comments on your operating experience during the event and/or send your comments to Karl N2KZ at: feetwetlogs at fistsna.org. You can make general comments on the number of contacts, your station setup, etc. Also supply your call sign & Fists#. Be sure to use the Subject line: GYFW Feedback. Your comments will be listed in the next issue of The Keynote. Send in your Logs to the Get Your Feet Wet Activity Manager: Karl Zuk N2KZ 15 Flintlock Ridge Rd.
