A solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice each year when the Sun's apparent position in the sky reaches its northernmost or southernmost extremes.
This year it will be today, March 20 at 23:21GMT
Normally we're used to that Grayline graphically on the globe is a kind of sine wave - now it turns into rectangles.
