Jack,
I agree with you. If the FISTS calling frequency idea is such a good
idea, it should be shared with the entire amateur community. Bravo!
Geo. G3ZQS always wanted to attract everyone to Morse. I never once
in his many rumblings about "it's a calling frequency, not a QSO
frequency" heard him once say "This is a FISTS frequency" - NEVER.
Geo was never an elitist - in fact the whole idea behind FISTS was to
NOT be elite, to be a warm inviting club open to everyone, a club that
wasn't a "high speed club" but just a club whose aim was good quality
Morse . The "calling frequencies" simply were frequencies for FISTS
to make contact on and move. A place to find each other.
Think of other CW operators getting a rumor about how well it works.
It isn't meant for contests, or stuff like that of course, so you'll
find the DXers elsewhere and the contesters.
FISTS should be in the lead in things CW. The FISTS association of
members - that is us - should collectively be able to lead a novice
from stumbling over his key and hesitant to send all the way to a
polished proficient expert. I'd like to see that and I know that this
was Geo's vision. There were clubs for "experts" and "professionals"
- his club was going to be an everyman's club but one that would
stress excellence in operating.
I suggested to SKCC that they use the "FISTS" calling frequencies to
call and then shift off for a QSO - and of course, hams not used to
this concept didn't like it.
But I think it is a positively wonderful idea. It would be like FM
simplex calling channel but world-wide. How good is that?
The more the merrier! I'm sure that Geo would approve highly - and if
it happens works, I'm positive he will have a giant open house party
in Heaven.
I'm all for it Jack, and I bet all of us are - it is a fabulous idea
and sure will make operating much less hit or miss. Your idea is very
much in line with Geo's thinking and what he was all about.

As a result, everyone wants to have their own calling frequency for their respective club.

Not to pick on SKCC exclusively (I'm a member), but you get the idea. Nobody wants to be accused of bad etiquette if they can avoid it, but it's becoming harder to avoid.

Just a suggestion, constructive comments welcome.
