Hi Anthony,

  Perhaps I did miss his point.  However, there is nothing to keep a new 
ham from feeling the same amount of pride - all the ham has to do is 
learn the code and get their skills up to 13 or 20 wpm or beyond.  It 
just isn't an enforced measurement any longer.  I, too, worked hard to 
learn the code and pass the 20 wpm exam.  Now it is simply up to the 
individual to choose the path they take.  Of course, it is a source of 
pride when one reaches a goal one sets for themselves whether it is a 
test requirement or a personal goal.   RIght now it is just no longer a 
requirement that we force some requirement on every ham who may want to 
operate on HF.
