Nancy and FISTS friends,
I think we now have a prime opportunity to help ARRL craft something a lot better than RM-11306. But first we have to know what we really want.
Obviously we don't want CW to be outlawed anywhere that it is now OK to use. And we don't want any more widening of the 'phone bands.
I don't think any of us want "robots", whether they are automatic, semiautomatic, or something else, tearing up more of the CW/data bands than they already do.
At the same time, I don't think FCC will go with any narrowing of the phone subbands they just widened.
In the original proposal, there were 200 and 500 Hz segments. The idea was that the 200 Hz segments would only accomodate CW and PSK31, while the 500 Hz segments would accomodate CW and most existing data modes. Was that part a good idea or a bad one?
It seems to me we can go several ways:
1) Revise the original RM-11306 to adjust the segments and eliminate the robots-everywhere idea.
2) Come up with a plan that has some "CW-only" segments where nothing but Morse Code is allowed.
3) Push for leaving things essentially as they are for the foreseeable future.
4) ?
What do others think?
