I am sorry to report that W6AUH, Dalton "Dalt" Bergstedt became a
Silent Key (SK).

Today there will be a special memorial transmission from commercial / marine
CW station KSM in San Francisco, CA according to Richard Dillman, Chief
Operator of KSM.

I received the following from RD from KSM/KPH.

QUOTE

We have received work of the passing of a great radioman and a real radio
pioneer, Dalt Bergstedt, W6AUH. This news has come via his good friend
Bart, W6OWP. [Bart is FISTS #3372 - ed. by N1EA]

Services for Dalt are scheduled for 1pm Pacific time Saturday, 3 December.
We plan to make a memorial broadcast from KPH at that time in the mode Dalt
loved best - CW.

We hope to have a 12Mc frequency active for this broadcast, using a
transmitter Dalt himself worked on, a Press Wireless PW-15 that we recovered
from the KFS transmitter site in Palo ALto. Dalt spent much of his working
life at Press Wireless. However as of this writing (2100pst/0500Z) we are
not sure if this transmitter will be available.

We will certainly be on MF (500 and 426kc) and we hope at least one HF
frequency.

I will let you know via a following email which frequencies will be active.

Please join us in wishing Dalt fair winds, following seas and vy 73.

UNQUOTE

In the words of another recent SK, Hugh Cassidy, WA6AUD:

Let us go then, you and I,
To where the evening meets the sky,
To where the yesterdays have gone,
To where the words are always song

To me, whenever I worked Dalt, he sang with his bug.
He had one of the most beautiful fists I've ever heard.

I had the pleasure of working him daily during the middle 1980s from
N1EA/MM - mostly from the "Cove Trader/KRBY" running from Panama to Baton
Rouge, LA. (NBA, (later HPN) to WNU for you TR guys.) He used to chew the
rag with the likes of Don DeNeuf - another excellent Morseman who was Dalt's
boss at Press Wireless and several other top notch operators somewhere
around 14,106 kc/s. Those men were men who had formed history in the 20th
century.

Dalt was present at the closedown of the station he managed - KFS -
when it closed morse service in 1999.
