Alan -
I thought that was very well said. FISTS is a very big factor in helping new cw ops. Having fun and trying your best is what it's all about. I like your note :-)

Subject: [Fists] RE: Fists QRS OPS
I have been a Fists member since 1998 (# 3027, CC# 351). I've had repeated
QSOs with several ops over the years and have seen a number of slow ops
improve their speed. Increased speed happens naturally, gradually, with
each QSO.
I use - a bug almost exclusively. A bug has a nice feature - you can use the
"dah" side to send like a straight key. I use my bug because it feels good
in my hand, but I ALWAYS slow to the speed of the other guy.
I mean, after all, the point is to converse, make friends, and exchange
thoughts. I would never talk rapidly to someone learning English. And I
would NEVER DO THAT to someone learning Code. That's just ordinary
politeness and consideration.
I joined Fists and am such a strong supporter for one main reason: It is
INCLUSIVE and it is WELCOMING. There is no place in the Fists organization
to censure or "boot" people, or to keep a scorecard, or to require
nominations or invitations to join. No place in Fists for that at all.
If someone has done CW for 5 years and is still at 7 wpm. Who cares? I
want to meet him or her. Do I care if my friends stammer or speak with a
regional accent? Nope. If they have something to say, I want to hear it.
That's all that matters.
So, elitism in Fists? That would a complete oxymoron! NO WAY! DON'T DO
IT.
