[Fists] Personal thoughts re posting messages to reflectors

Hi Luigi and all,

I would like to suggest something about identities and subject lines. =
When I see an odd-looking combo such as from 'luigi' and subject 'FS' on =
a reflector such as this one, I tend to delete the message rather than =
opening it. In the last day or two there was another with a similar =
title that I think had a simple subject: 'hello'.

I run a very thorough filtering system, as does my ISP, but some of this =
sneaks through and the technology is such that when opened, many =
messages plant a threat which must be removed, which my software can do =
-- After the fact. Diabolical but a fact.

'For Sale - Swan Cygnet rig'. Now that would not raise my eyebrows at =
all. A spammer would not likely know a Swan Cygnet from a Canada Goose. =
I would open that message.=20

If a message said 'Hi - new to the FISTS reflector' -- instead of =
'hello' -- again, I would open it without a second thought. It is also =
rare to see a rig for sale on this reflector but fine with me and the =
more coverage you give it, the better the odds you will make a sale.=20

I am not the moderator. I am just a member and user. The moderator of =
any of the QTH.net sites can decide to prevent, also, multiple postings. =
The system specifically provides for that, making it simple for the =
moderator to implement. Might as well cover this.=20

You post a message to let us say the [FISTS] reflector. Then you add on =
Cc:'s to a couple of others, such as [CW], [Kenwood], etc. Any moderator =
can stop that and may decide to do so. Far better to post separate =
messages to each reflector, and key your subject and remarks to that =
specific reflector.

I'm not the internet police, as the pundits call them. These are =
personal observations influenced by comments I have seen from =
moderators, and information I know re opening emails which have no =
attachments, and getting your computer infected - yes, that is the =
latest and it is real. Home pages of any popular anti-threat program =
explain this in detail. I was astounded yesterday to see a poster on =
[qrp-l] who had this latter problem occur, and promptly sent a message =
to [qrp-l] etc. I do hope he cleaned his system up before he did that. =
There was not a clue that he had done so. =20

Your mileage on this road may vary. Thanks very much for reading this. =
No offense intended. And Luigi, I hope you find a buyer for that rig. =
:-) I'm selling spare stuff instead of collecting, or I would consider =
buying it from you.
