One of my favorite Bokonon quotes is  "Maturity is a bitter disappointment
for which no remedy exists, unless laughter can be said to remedy
anything." which seems a play on the philosopher Friedrich Neitzsche who
said  "A person's maturity consists in having found again the seriousness
one had as a child, at play."  If I were forced to chose a single
philosophy, it would be the tone which underlies all of Vonnegut's work and
can be summed up in four words "Be Nice, God Damnit!"
