 Hello,
I originally sent this to Nancy but thought you might find it interesting
as well. Been kinda quiet here lately!

I just finished a week as control op of the FISTS USA call KN0WCW. Fun
 as
always, and here are some thoughts I had:
Interestingly, I worked 6 FISTS members who had attended the Orlando
Hamfest. WOW! Looks like I missed out! :-) In my week on the air I worked
about 75 FISTS members, 25 non-members, and 30 contacts were made in the
ARRL International DX contest. I thought it would be "good" to get KN0WCW
into some DXers logs, even though the contacts were not enjoyable to me, a
rag-chewer! The callsign is also much too long for contesting! I made
contacts on 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15 and 10 meters, and to NA, SA, EU and AF
continents. And some contacts while I was mobile!
Even though contacting FISTS members and distributing points is fun, I
feel like I am "preaching to the choir" and maybe as CW is under attack on
the HF bands, we should use KN0WCW for more "outreach". How about
operating as a "special event" station at some hamfests? How about local
festivals,
fairs, civic events, and local tourist attractions? There aren't enough
CW special events on the air now. I know this would be difficult to plan
ahead, contact organizers,
advertise, and get on the operating schedule, but might be worth a try? We
have the
structure in place to handle it, even a QSL bureau!
